BEASTS OF SETE
The animals of the singular island and its surroundings
Beast. Dictionaries persist in excluding us from it—if not from the adjective—at least from the feminine noun. They give a touch of it by specifying: “every living being, with the exception of the human being”. And to support what seems obvious to them, to cite an example without suspecting the irony: "horned animals".
In this native bestiary, a few inhuman beings are therefore treated with fraternal attention, a qualifier which I hope they will take as a compliment.

Title of the satirical Oran newspaper L'Algérie Comique & Pittoresque which recounted Jules Verne's visit to Algeria in two issues and devoted its cover page to him on June 15, 1884. Illustration by J. Chape whose caricature represents the author of Vingt Mille Leagues under the sea sitting at the bottom of the water, with the city of Oran and the hill of Santa Cruz as the horizon.
Below: Coat of arms issued in 1743 to the town of Cette, whose port was created from 1666. They represent a cetacean in front of Mount Saint-Clair, under Neptune and his trident.

Roger & Jacotte Capron were among "the most prolific and important artisans of post-war European design" — New York Times
From the 1950s their reputation was established internationally, with their furniture and works of art, jewellery, etc. in ceramics: gold medal at the X Triennale in Milan (1954), Brussels (1959), and in 1970 with the international ceramics award. In 2003 a retrospective exhibition at the National Ceramics Museum of Sèvres, Les Capron, devoted their considerable artistic production.
For the occasion, the creators of the Ateliers d'art de la Perle Noire have created a sculpture or a jewel. Designer, ceramist, serigrapher, sculptor, theater props designer, fashion or jewelry designer... A diversity of practices and unprecedented expressions. Visit their workshops in the historic center!

Robin Friend's Bastard Countryside explores the British landscape as a series of metaphors. Each photograph is a representation of how our modern way of life is destroying the planet.
Oil and moss, by Igor Tereshkov, features photos taken in the Khantys-Mansis Autonomous District in western Siberia, where about 50% of Russia's oil is produced. This work denounces the irresponsible way in which we treat fossil fuels.
