Jean-Francis Auburtin, a golden age

From September 25, 2021 to March 27, 2022

Lodeve Museum

Jean-Francis Auburtin (1866-1930) is part of the long procession of painters on the subject: Delacroix, Courbet, Boudin, Jongkind, Monet... Portraitist of nature, Auburtin detects in each landscape the intimate character of the place. During his walks, he tracks down the motif, captures it in his notebooks and thus amasses a rich repertoire of pictorial forms. His work is almost entirely immersed in the marine world, to the point that the art historian Christian Briend describes him as a “symbolist of the sea”. In a hundred works, the Museum of Lodève offers a complete retrospective of this painter to rediscover. Watch on YouTube
